Realizing the importance of proper grooming and the effect it has on self-esteem and perception, barbers offer free haircuts to youth/men. The goal is to recreate the barbershop atmosphere, where ideas and information get disseminated, shared, and debated. Knowledgeable adult men impart wisdom and ideologies with youth in a positive social environment. Influential men, including business owners, athletes, judges, entertainers, community leaders, partake in sessions and add their expertise to discussions. In exchange for grooming services, patrons sweep their own hair and add their names to a contact list for community service projects such as neighborhood clean-ups and Aldermanic walks.
