The Good Neighbor Grant Fund Application

Please complete all required sections. Safe & Sound will respond to completed applications within 30 days of receipt. Funded projects must commence within 60 days of approval. Funding is not guaranteed; applications may be funded in full or in part as we work to support projects across all 15 aldermanic districts.

Notification Process

Applicants will be notified of funding decisions via email within 30 days of submitting a completed application. Please ensure the email address provided is accurate and checked regularly, as Safe & Sound is not responsible for missed communications.

Funding Overview

This grant supports resident-led projects that strengthen, beautify, and connect blocks or neighborhoods within designated areas. The maximum request amount is $2,500.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be Milwaukee residents applying as part of a block club, neighborhood association, tenant council, or informal resident-led group.
  • Applications must be submitted by a resident (age 18 or older) who lives in the designated area where the project will take place.
  • Projects must take place within the City of Milwaukee.

Ineligible

The following are not eligible to apply or receive funding:

  • Businesses, churches, LLCs, nonprofits, for-profit organizations, or contractors
  • Individuals applying on behalf of an organization rather than a resident-led group

Project Requirements

  • Projects must directly benefit residents in the designated area and be free and accessible to the public whenever possible.
  • A basic project budget is required (estimates are acceptable).
  • Funds may not be used for stipends, personal expenses, partisan political activities, alcohol or cannabis, or gifts to individuals.
  • If your group does not have a bank account, you must identify a fiscal sponsor or a lead resident who can receive and manage the funds on behalf of the group.
  • Projects must be completed within a specified timeframe (e.g., 3–6 months of award).

Award Requirements

  • Awardees must invite Safe & Sound and the local Alder to any project celebration or unveiling.
  • Within 30 days of project completion, recipients must submit a brief evaluation (statement of impact), along with 2–3 photos and/or short video clips to goodneighborgrant@safesound.org. Failure to submit required documentation may impact eligibility for future funding.
  • Awardees are required to acknowledge Safe & Sound’s support in communications whenever possible (e.g., flyers, social media, press).
